Intrinsic Motivation – Lust for Success

Intrinsic Motivation and Sex Energy - Say what?

Intrinsic motivation is the itch before the scratch, the ache before the rub, and the engine rev before the race.  It drives you to action because of an irresistible impulse not because you have to, or want to, but because you need to. Intrinsic motivation is the potential energy before the explosion of kinetic energy pushing you into action!

Intrinsic motivation is the drive, the fire, the irresistible urge to enact a positive behavior that takes you to a new level.  The sensations, emotions, and urgency to ‘act’ are what drive your present behavior to move you ‘forward’ to your desired state or level. Intrinsic motivation is not given to you: you create it by the person you desire to be and the goals you aspire to reach – and the value you put on them!  A continuous hunger for growth and expansion is not one that is easily satiated.

Do you have it? (Trick Question: I know you do, you just need to tap into it!)

Feeling ‘It’

If this feeling sounds obscure to you, then you’ve probably never cared enough for any one thing. Those who believe this intrinsic sensation is a pipe-dream are usually not the ones who are reading a site like this but rather are those who lack passion and an appetite for personal growth.

Those who read websites like this want to see a positive change, expand their personal awareness, and have the most fulfilling life possible. You care, and you are passionate. Passionless people are those who don’t have a clue about their life purpose, are lost in a wandering loop of ‘what now?’ questions, and are no longer searching for their answers.

This isn’t you. You want to feel the passion and chase after big dreams, and I know you’ve felt it before!

Oh, You’ve Felt it Alright!

Let me talk to you about a term that sounds a little strange at first but wonderfully describes the power and drive to action which makes intrinsic motivation so effective.

If you have read the book ‘Think and Grow Rich‘ by Napoleon Hill you have heard of this term and definition before.  If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it as it is one of my favorite books to this day – it is not about making money but about enriching one’s soul.

Napoleon Hill uses the term Sex Energy to define the internal flame that is required to live a life of passion and success.  Let’s think about it for a second.  Food, sex, love, shelter – all these are defined as primal needs and desires that we are naturally inclined to crave and satisfy, as they are necessary for the survival of ourselves and our race.  We feel these inclinations throughout our entire being and sex is one of the strongest.

A drive so strong, that we naturally shape our existing patterns, habits, and behaviors around fulfilling it.  Most of the time, this is a completely unconscious activity. Don’t take this the wrong way, we are not wild apes running around with our pants down trying to satisfy ourselves – but no one can deny that we have a physiological desire that we feel with our entire mind and body – thus affecting our behavior!

Hill goes on to say that if we can apply this type of energy, this powerful force, towards our goals and passions in life, then we will naturally adapt our lives to the accomplishment and overall success of these objectives.  Reaching this level makes discipline and will-power a thing of the past as you unconsciously direct your path toward your own definitions of success. Finding motivation and encouragement is no longer necessary because our emotions, feelings, and body create their own.

What do you think? Can you create goals you lust for, discover passions that motivate you, and get excited about the release of happiness and joy as you continue to satisfy them?

(Some people call me crazy as I relate this concept to them, but I love it. Take your mind out of the gutter for a second and think about the applicability and value of having your mind and body working for you instead of against you.)

Go Get Some

When you can transmute Sex Energy into energy that is directed towards realizing your ideal self and ideal life, you are for up one hell of an adventure on a ride you’ll enjoy along the way. So how do we get there?

We are all different, each one with our own drivers, motivators, and pathways to our happiness and success.  How do we go about being filled with intrinsic motivation?

If you are hoping for a cryptic, non-specific answer then fantastic – that’s what you are going to get. I can’t give you a straight answer as we each have to find our own way… and sorry, Napoleon Hill doesn’t give you the secret either but he likes to elude to it in every chapter.

On a final note, keep in mind that the key is to understand what makes us tick and capitalize on this knowledge. The more you understand yourself, your life passions and goals, and your own brain, the more powerfully you can make huge impacts on your life with less resistance. Clarity is power. This is one of the guiding principles of what being a ‘Student of Me’ is all about!

And don’t forget about your Sex Energy!

Nice article, I agree with you when people hear the term “Sex Energy” they get a bit thrown off.. But if you really examine how much “Sex” influences our thoughts and actions, it becomes very apparent that channeling that energy in a positive direction can have incredible results 🙂
