Passion Review

If you are just now joining us, be sure to first read Part 1 and Part 2 regarding our passions as we continue with a technique from the book, The Passion Test.

So far we have 1) consciously focused on discovering our passions, 2) and have clarified our top 5 passions. For today, it’s all about bringing attention to these passions so we can integrate them into our everyday living!

Green or Red?

If I asked you to look around the room and remember what you see, and then ask you to close your eyes and tell me how many green items there are in the room, how many could you recall?

If I then asked you to look around the room and find all the red items, and then close your eyes and tell me how many red items there are in the room… would you recall more?

Of course.  When you know what you are looking for, it is much easier to find.   We can do this consciously and subconsciously.  We need to activate our subconscious to be actively seeking opportunities in the direction of our passions.

Our Personal GPS

Just as the situation above is noticeably easier when we are clear about our objective, we are going to ensure that our subconscious mind is receptive to outside influences that have would have an effect on our passions.  By being clear, we will instinctively search for opportunities that are aligned with our passions.

Today, we are going to start programming our subconscious mind to be actively aware of our passions and to be seeking out opportunities FOR us, even when we aren’t consciously thinking about them.  It’s like having our own internal Life GPS guiding us in the direction we need to go.

To do this, we have to ensure our subconscious is consistently being delivered information about our passions.  Let’s talk about some ideas on how to do this.

Bringing Attention

Let’s talk about a few ways to keep our subconscious actively stimulated to keep an eye out for opportunities that help fulfill our passions.

Idea #1 – Cards

Gather a few 3 x 5 index cards.  List your passions on the cards prefaced with a personal statement that acknowledges your passions as if they already are a reality.  Something similar to: “I am so happy and thankful that I am now living my passions and drawing the following into my life:”.

Create several of these cards and put them in places you’ll see them regularly.  Bathroom mirror, by your computer or desk, purse or wallet, car dashboard, on the refrigerator, etc.!

Idea #2 – Vision Board

Create a poster board with imagery suitable for all your passions.  If you want money, you can put nice shiny objects on there.  If you want a family, put a picture of the Brady Bunch if you’d like.  If you want to be a professional basketball player, put pictures of your favorite stars (with your head on them?) etc.!  Create a stimulating and colorful board you can see everyday!

Idea #3 – 100 Year Old Birthday Speech

Pretend it’s your 100th birthday and you are at your party where everyone you care about is present.  And your best friend is going to give a speech recognizing you for all your life’s accomplishments and successes.  Here’s the catch: you are going to write that speech!  Include everything you are going to accomplish, awards you will win, honors you will receive, your family, your career… be creative!  The more you can visualize, the better!

Your Task

Pick one (or more) of the ideas above and do it!

Final Thoughts on Passion

Just as putting a ‘label’ on a relationship makes it real and official, so does putting labels on your passions.  Make it official and start actively changing your life to be inline with your passions.  Remember, every time you’re faced with a decision, choose in favor of your passions!
